Part noir, part techno-thriller, it is also a quiet story about a man who spent his career choosing invisibility — and what it costs to finally put your name on something that matters.

READ THE OPENING
Two-fourteen in the morning, and the operations floor had given itself over to the machines.
Gaurav Mishra sat at the central desk with his jacket folded over the back of the chair, elbows bracketing the keyboard, eyes on the progress bar that had been inching toward completion for the last eleven minutes. The wall screens displayed the usual quiet disorder of a live environment at low tide — server utilisation at 23%, session count near zero, transaction volume a thin green line barely twitching. He had stopped reading them two hours ago.

He had given it a name that made any passing engineer's eyes slide right past it. Boring names kept questions away. In fourteen years of rooms like this one, that had been the single most reliable piece of operational wisdom he had ever received.
